The Jim Pepino giant scale Lockheed Vega is 100 inch wingspan and is 1/5th scale and is modelled after the "Winnie Mae" aircraft. This item is the short kit for this fantastic model. It includes all of the balsawood and plywood ribs and formers as laid out in the plan set.  This model requires that the builder has scratch building experience.

The aircraft Winnie Mae is a very famous aircraft and pioneered several aviation technologies. In 1931 Wiley Post and navigator Harold Gatty flew it around the world in eight days and in 1933 Post became the first to fly around the world solo in only seven days. In 1935 whilst wearing the worlds first pressure suit which he helped design, Post flew the Vega into the stratosphere reaching 547 kilometers per hour whilst cruising in a jet stream. The Winnie Mae was named from the daughter of F.C Hall the original owner and a close friend of Post. The aircraft is currently on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC
